New 2016 Soccer Initiatives & Changes

NEW* US Soccer Player Development Initiatives

Small-Sided Standards & Birth Year Registration Changes

Revolution Families: U.S. Soccer, the governing body that U.S. Youth Soccer, CalSouth and San Marcos Revolution, are sanctioned by and affiliated with, has established new player development initiatives which feature new standards related to birth-year registration and small-sided games. U.S. Soccer recommends putting these initiatives into place as a best practice beginning in August of 2016, as they will be mandated in August of 2017. Many of you have already seen or heard information related to these initiatives.

The administrative and technical leadership members of our club have been holding and attending meetings regarding these initiatives. We attended the SDDA Director of Coaching (D.O.C.) meeting on October 12th and the General Presidio meeting on October 20th. During these meetings, updates on the initiatives were provided by CalSouth representatives based on internal CalSouth Board meetings as well as open discussion forums held by CalSouth. Below is a summary of the initiatives, what we know at this time and frequently asked questions. We will continue to monitor outstanding items and provide updates to you as soon as we have new information.

Birth Year Registration Initiative

CalSouth has voted to make the Birth Year Registration mandatory starting with the 2016/2107 season, which is the upcoming season. About Us

Revolution Soccer is North County's fastest growing competitive soccer program designed for families with players that are ready to play soccer at the competitive level. We are a locally managed, ALL VOLUNTEER program comprised of hardworking, caring parents that put the best interest of the children first.

We strive to grow Revolution Soccer from within our own recreation program, San Marcos Youth Soccer (SMYS), and to develop each team as a unit from one season to the next.

Our Goal… is to be the competitive soccer program of choice for the families of San Marcos and the surrounding communities. We plan on accomplishing this goal by providing:

• Player Development at all levels of play
• Positive Coaching Staff and Professional Trainers

And by promoting:

• Fair Play, Good Sportsmanship and Positive Attitudes in all players, coaches and fans
• Team Play over Individual Play
• Team Spirit, Loyalty and Continuity
• Family Friendly Values

We believe that players become better by playing and not by sitting on the bench.  We do not take on players to fill a roster or to help subsidize star players.  Instead, our policy is that every player that is selected to a team shall get a minimum of 50% playing time througout the course of the season.  This is achieved by careful selection at tryouts and ensuring that every player receives the best training possible.

Our Revolution Policies and Procedures Manual outlines the year-round operations of our competitive program and is designed to provide a positive place for our young soccer players to develop their skills and their love for the game as well as providing guidance to our coaches and team managers. It is that time of year again when we start looking for the competitive coaches for the San Marcos Revolution program. If you are interested in being a competitive coach in the San Marcos Revolution program for the 2015-2016 season, complete the San Marcos Revolution Coaching Application form and submit it by selecting the "submit" button at the top-right corner of the page no later than December 13th, 2014.  Early submission is appreciated!

In order to be considered to be a coach for the Revolution program, a candidate must meet all of the following qualifications:

  • The candidate must have coaching experience of at least two years. This could be either: Head coach for at least two seasons of outdoor soccer for the U9 or older age groups (at least one of the years must be with SMYS) or Assistant coaching experience with a Revolution soccer team for at least two seasons.
  • The candidate must have taken (passed) or must be enrolled in a USSF “E-License” course.  Note that SMYS will reimburse our Revolution coaches for the cost of the E-license course.
